If there is one characteristic feature of the Palm Groves of Elche that make it different from the rest of the palm groves inthe world, it is surely the so called "white palms", which are obtained thanks to anoperation known as hooding or"encaporutxat" of the tree tops. This process of covering the palm leaves and protecting them from the sun, causes them to turn white instead of their natural green colour.

northernmost oasis in the Mediterranean has attracted many famous people throughout history. Among all the orchards the most famous is undoubtedly the "Huerto del Cura". This artistic gardenhas had a long list of illustrious visitors - politicians, writers, scientists - who have all succumbed ti its beauty.

The palm tree apart from the landscape gives dates and white palms, the main element for Palm Sunday and the Misteri d'Elx in which an angel descends a white palm from heaven and hands it over to Our Lady the Virgin Mary
